Town Hall Shimla
The present Town hall was designed as the New Library & Offices by Scottish Architect Mr James Ransome. In the original design, the ground floor comprised of Vaulted Porch, 3 Halls, Record room and offices for clerks, and First Floor comprised of General Reading Room, Silent Reading Room, a Hall, Smoking Room, Verandah, and Main Library hall.
Although the building was originally designed as a library and work completed in 1908. However later on Municipal Corporation used the building as Health lab, clerks and secretary’s office. Subsequently building was used as Civic body’s head quarter with offices of Mayor and Municipal commissioner, Shimla Municipal Corporation as well as Hall for General House meetings.
Over the years, the woodwork at many places had decayed, leaving the building exposed to rain and leakages. Intervention like construction of False walls, Construction of brick Parapet on first floor on Mall road side and Construction of Mezzanine floors have changed the fabric of building.
Some of the features of the restoration are:

Restore original Character of Building.

Washrooms, False cavity walls, mezzanine floors, cement plaster on many walls, plywood and other similar work added later to be removed.

Restore height of the attic to the original 2.4 m as it has slid down by almost one feet. & Repair of roof and replacement of slates., Repair of Chmineys

Use lime Plaster & restore the entrance from the Mall as original plan.

CCTV, LAN, Fire Fighting, Illumination, etc.
